A case of vandalism of the statue of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi came to light on Sunday in Bairagi Mohalla of Gaya city of Bihar. There is a lot of anger among the local people regarding this incident. It is being said that the statue of Mahatma Gandhi has been vandalized by anti-social elements.
According to the information, Bapu’s statue has been mutilated in the northern part of Gaya city. It is not yet known who has done this heinous act and for what purpose. On receiving the information of the incident, the police reached the spot and started investigating the matter. Bairagi Mohalla comes under ward no. 10 of Gaya Municipal Corporation. People also informed the local ward councilor Gopal Paswan about this incident. When ward no. 11 councilor Kundan Paswan got the information, both of them reached the spot. Local people told that in the morning no one paid attention to the mutilated statue of Bapu. When someone noticed it, this news reached the police administration through the ward councilor.
Regional ward councilor Gopal Paswan said that when he reached there, he saw that the statue of Bapu had been mutilated at the place where the community hall was being constructed. Actually, as soon as the statue of Bapu was installed at this place, the people of the olden times named it Harijan Mandir which is still in practice. Councilor Gopal Paswan said that the incident is very condemnable. The local police station has been informed to identify the accused. After the information, the police reached the spot and started investigating the case.
He told that the construction work of a community hall is being done here. Anti-social elements have damaged the nose, mouth and ears of Bapu’s statue. The news of this incident spread throughout the city. After that, a large number of people reached the spot and expressed anger. The local people demanded the police to arrest the accused. After that, the police started searching the footage of CCTV cameras installed nearby to catch the accused involved in the incident. So that the accused can be identified and arrested.
